Santa Clara, CA, December 6, 2002. Coherent, Inc. has appointed Vittorio Fossati-Bellani PhD to the position of Chief Marketing Officer of Coherent Inc.
As Chief Marketing Officer, Dr. Fossati-Bellani plays a pivotal role within the organization to provide leadership and direction toward development and implementation of marketing strategies and tactics to support the company's plan to increase revenues and profitability. This includes qualifying new markets and trends, establishing partnerships, and outlining acquisition strategies.

As a 23-year veteran of Coherent, Dr. Fossati-Bellani has a clearly established track record of producing results. He demonstrates the ability to build, operate and maintain high performance organizations. In addition to his strategic marketing expertise, Vittorio has contributed to Coherent's success with ultrafast technology, diode-pumped solid-state lasers, and was a key player behind its investments in diode laser technology. Previous appointments for Dr. Fossati-Bellani include those of President of its Telecom Actives Group and President of the Semiconductor Group.
