Seminar to Highlight Non-telecom Opportunities
Nashua, NH, December 2, 2002. With the current "nuclear winter" in telecom spending, photonics companies are seeking new opportunities in non-telecom markets, including semiconductor, biotechnology, and industrial-sensing applications. During the 2003 Laser Focus World Marketplace Seminar (January 27, San Jose, CA) Tim Day, co-founder and chief technology officer of New Focus (Santa Clara, CA), will discuss what his company is doing to build upon its telecom technologies and provide core photonics solutions for non-telecom markets.
Other presentations during the day-long event will include review and forecast of global-laser markets, industrial-laser markets, the semiconductor laser market, and the medical-laser market. Keynote speaker Dennis Killinger of the University of South Florida will provide an overview of market and technology-development opportunities in homeland security, while Tom Hausken, an analyst with Strategies Unlimited (Mountain View, CA), will discuss the current chaos in the telecom market and the potential for the future of this business.
Additional seminar highlights include "Market Challenges and Risks for Ultrafast Laser Processing," presented by Andreas Ostendorf of Laser Zentrum Hannover, and "The Promise and Challenge of Solid-State Lighting," presented by George Craford of Lumileds Lighting.
As usual, seminar attendees will have exclusive access to expanded market data and analysis from the annual Laser Focus World review and forecast.
