Lumentis Builds 3G-network for Hi3G
Stockholm, November 19, 2002. Lumentis AB has received an order to build the 3G-transport for Hi3G in the Malmo region in the South of Sweden. Lumentis has earlier successfully delivered and installed a solution for Hi3G's 3G-network in the Stockholm region. Lumentis will deliver their optical SDH/SONET-solution (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) that is optimized for mobile 2G- and 3G-networks. This product solution results in lower transmission costs for mobile networks as well as it offers a disturbance free upgrade path to DWDM over the same fiber infrastructure.
By deploying Lumentis' equipment, Hi3G will have a smooth upgrade path for higher capacity as well as the ability to handle multi-service transport. As part of this order, Lumentis also delivers an element management system that fulfills functionality requirements and applicable standards for mobile networks.
"Hi3G selected us because our SDH/SONET-solution is considerably more cost effective for mobile networks when compared to traditional SDH/SONET-systems. It also allows them to easily add on multimedia services," said Par Johanson, Director Marketing and Sales at Lumentis. "Mobile backbones are right now going through a shift in technology as both SDH/SONET and IP-based traffic must be handled side by side. We can offer a solution for mobile operators that can combines both present and future demands for mobile transport in a way that saves money and is a lot more flexible."
