Seiko Introduces Low Current Color LCD Module
Need a color display for your cell phone design, but are concerned about the power drain on the battery? Seiko Instruments USA Inc. has the solution to your problem: low-power, high-resolution and thin. Introducing the RA43Z, a low-power transflective-positive Color LCD. This CSTN LCD consumes a low 2.5 mA in operation mode. With a portrait resolution of 128 x 160, the 3 mm thin LCD requires only a single 3.3-volt power supply and it's ready to display your image. The RA43Z can be used in portable handheld devices such as cellular phones, 2-way pagers and small test and measurement units.
"We are always looking at ways to conserve battery power," says Mike McLachlan, associate marketing manager for Seiko Instruments. "The RA43Z uses the same amount of power as a black-and-white LCD of similar size, resolution and pixel configuration. Therefore, it won't drain the battery any more than the current displays in cell phones."
Seiko's color chip-on-flex LCD has 4096 colors, an active area of 31.2 mm x 39.0 mm, a viewing area of 33.3 mm x 43.0 mm, and a white LED backlight. It uses a ZIF connector to connect to the data terminal.
Pricing for the RA43Z begins at $45 (USA) in 1K quantities. Sample quantities are available from stock through a national network of authorized distributors, including All American, Mouser and Future Electronics.
