Multi Order Waveplates

Multiple order waveplates are a cost-effective tool for controlling the polarization state of lasers or other narrowband light sources.  They contribute to an efficient economical solution for various applications.   In comparison to zero order waveplates, multi order wave plates’ retardance is more sensitive to temperature shifts and wavelength.

Zero Order Waveplates

Zero order quarter waveplates are made from two pieces of quartz, either cemented or optically contacted, with their optic axes perpendicular to each other.  Their thicknesses are slightly different in order to provide a net zero order retardation.  They can be used to change the state of polarization of incident light.  These wave plates offer much lower dependence on wavelength and temperature than their multi order counterparts.
