Washington, DC--Next year's Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO), held annually in San Jose, CA, will take place in June rather than its usual May, moving to June 9–14, 2013. The decision to move the dates was made by Messe Munich, which also organizes the Laser: World of Photonics show, to provide attendees and exhibitors more time between the two industry shows.
In planning CLEO:2013, Kate Kirby, executive officer of the American Physical Society (APS), another co-sponsor of the show, notes that one of the top priorities was to select dates for the meeting that do not pose a conflict for many attendees from various communities.
CLEO:2012 will take place May 6–11, featuring more than 1,800 technical presentations ranging from basic research to industry applications. This year's expo will showcase 300 participating companies from around the world and includes a new Japan Pavilion, as well as the new Technology Playground—a roundup of hands-on production demonstrations from select exhibitors designed to foster one-on-one interaction between companies and attendees. CLEO's Market Focus program will provide market trends and outlook in areas like biophotonics, energy, and manufacturing, and the returning Tech Transfer program will feature entrepreneurs and researchers from start-ups, major universities, businesses, and national laboratories presenting new technologies that are ready and available for commercialization.
