Newton, NJ--Photonics equipment manufacturer Thorlabs recently completed its new three-story, 120,000-sq-ft. facility, which will serve as the central hub for the company's sales, service, R&D, and manufacturing operations. Located at 56 Sparta Ave. in Newton, subsequent construction phases for the site are planned for the next 7–10 years that will expand space to include approximately 300,000 sq. ft.

With the addition of the new building, the company intends to expand its machine shop at its 40,000-sq-ft. facility located two miles away from the new site in Andover Township. Expanding the machine shop’s footprint enables the company to allocate specific resources and equipment to the creation of prototypes, as well as support faster turnarounds on special customer requests, says Alex Cable, founder and CEO.
