Ann Arbor, MI--John Stack, president of the Optical Systems Division for Zygo Corporation, was presented with the 2012 AIA Achievement Award during a ceremony held recently at AIA's 20th Annual Business Conference in Orlando, FL. Nominated by AIA members and selected by the AIA Board of Directors, Stack is being honored for his industry leadership and contributions to the vision and imaging industry—achievements spanning more than two decades.

Stack served as a member of the AIA Board of Directors from 2001-2004 and was elected chairperson for the 2003-2004 term. He was also a member of the Board of the Automation Technologies Council, AIA's parent group.

President of the Optical Systems Division at Zygo since November 2006, Stack also assumed responsibility for the Precision Positioning Solutions and Zygo Vision Systems Business Units starting in 2009. Since joining Zygo, he has been involved in providing optical solutions for semiconductor photolithography, aerial reconnaissance, 3D chip inspection, DNA sequencing, intraoral 3D imaging, and high-energy laser fusion.

The annual award, sponsored by the AIA, has been given since 1991 and honors one industry leader for outstanding contributions in promoting market acceptance of industrial and/or scientific imaging. The award is presented each year at the AIA's Business Conference, a members-only event that brings key industry executives together for two and a half days of networking, important machine vision business discussions, and presentations that explore emerging markets and new technologies.

Also during the AIA Business Conference, Greg Hollows, director of Machine Vision Solutions at Edmund Optics, was named chairman of the AIA Board of Directors for 2012-2013. His hope is to grow AIA's presence in existing and emerging market areas through education, understanding, and cooperation, he says.

Hollows succeeds Rusty Ponce de Leon, president, Phase 1 Technology, who remains on the Board as past chairman. Both men are joined on the Board by newly elected directors Phil Arsenault, director of engineering, ATS Automation Tooling Systems, and Steve Mott, vice president, Components Express. Both are serving their first term on the Board.

Todd Miller, general manager, JAI, was appointed by the Board to the remaining one year left in the term of Jorgen Andersen, president and CEO at JAI. Re-elected to new two-year terms are George Chamberlain, president, Pleora Technologies; John Merva, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Advanced Illumination; and Kyle Voosen, director of marketing, National Instruments Corporation (U.K.) Ltd.

Other 2012 Board members include Michael Cyros, chief commercial officer, Allied Vision Technologies; John Jennings, chief commercial officer, Basler Vision Technologies; Keith Reuben, president, Teledyne DALSA Asia-Pacific; Edward Roney, national accounts manager, FANUC Robotics America Corporation; and Jeff Burnstein, AIA president.
