Automated Imaging Association (AIA) names new vision standards director

Ann Arbor, MI--The Automated Imaging Association (AIA), organized specifically to promote the understanding and use of image capture and analysis technology and now representing more than 300 machine vision suppliers, system integrators, users, researchers, and consulting firms from 30 countries, has named Robert McCurrach as director, AIA Standards Development. Standards play a key role in the vision and imaging industry by ensuring interoperability of components and shortening the time it takes to get new products to market. Increased standards activity led the AIA to add a full time dedicated staff person. McCurrach will work closely with Jeff Fryman, who has handled standards development for AIA and its sister trade group, Robotic Industries Association, for the past 15 years.

"Bob’s engineering, product and process management skills make him a natural fit for the role. He brings the right mix of technical savvy and experience to the association. We look forward to advancing our standards program to the next level and supporting this important component of the global vision industry," said Jeff Burnstein, AIA president.

McCurrach has more than 25 years of experience in the manufacturing sector with a focus on global engineering management and strategic program and process management, primarily for the nuclear, defense, and automotive industries. He holds a BS in mechanical engineering from Lehigh University and an MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology. "I’m eager to put my background and knowledge to work in promoting AIA’s commitment to improving and expanding their standards program. I look forward to working on standards enhancements and supporting emerging standards within the machine vision industry," said McCurrach.

In addition to the development of industry standards such as Camera Link, Camera Link HS, and GigE Vision, AIA is best-known for The Vision Show (May 2012 in Boston); the Automate show (next held in 2013); its annual AIA Business Conference (January 18-20, 2012 in Orlando) and Machine Vision Online.
