Laser Quantum buys femtosecond-laser maker Venteon Laser Technologies GmbH

Sept. 8, 2014
Laser Quantum (Stockport, England) announced it has purchased Venteon Laser Technologies GmbH (Hannover, Germany), which makes few-cycle ultrashort-pulse lasers.

Laser Quantum (Stockport, England) announced it has purchased Venteon Laser Technologies GmbH (Hannover, Germany), which makes few-cycle ultrashort-pulse lasers. Founded in 1994 as a manufacturer of high-power continuous-wave (CW) lasers, Laser Quantum moved into the femtosecond-laser arena with the purchase of Gigaoptics GmbH (Konstanz, Germany) in 2011.

Venteon says it has used Laser Quantum pump lasers in the design and manufacture of its own products for many years, adding that the interdependent nature of the relationship has led to the publication of a number of joint white papers on subjects such as the generation of sub-5-fs pulses and carrier-envelope-phase (CEP) stabilization using a direct-pump modulation method patented by Laser Quantum.

"[T]he vertical integration across our product range will lead to better value and support for our customers," notes Lawrie Gloster, CEO of Laser Quantum.

Laser Quantum has a global distribution network, which it says will help the spread of Venteon's technology.

Venteon Laser Technologies GmbH will remain in its current headquarters in Hannover where it will undertake increased R&D and manufacture, with Laser Quantum becoming responsibile for sales, marketing, and after-sales support. The new facility will add its own manufacturing footprint to Laser Quantum's tally of sites, including those in Konstanz, Germany, Stockport, England and San Jose, CA.
