LASYS 2014, the international trade fair devoted to laser material processing, is set to open June 24-26, 2014, at the Stuttgart trade fair center in Stuttgart, Germany. Held every other year, the 2014 event is expecting close to 200 exhibitors—approximately 30 percent of whom are from outside of Germany. Attendees can expect to see all applications in laser material processing represented, from macro- and microprocessing to laser additive manufacturing.

The event targets industries such as mechanical engineering, automotive, optics, metalworking, plant and apparatus construction, electronics, precision engineering, plastics, semiconductors, and medical technology. Debuting this year in Hall 4, attendees will have access to two pavilions on Laser Additive Manufacturing and Robotics & Automation (which also has a theme park with the same name). Exhibitors who are active in these two areas will display a corresponding colored label at their stand.

As mentioned, the exhibit hall will host close to 200 exhibitors, all of whom will be available for demonstrations and questions. To help navigate the exhibit hall's offerings, here is a list of some of the exhibitors and the products they will be showcasing at their booths:

Amplitude Systèmes to display ultrafast fiber laser with harmonic generator at LASYS 2014

Cinogy Technologies to showcase compact USB 3.0 laser beam profiler at LASYS 2014

Edmund Optics to display laser optics solutions at LASYS 2014

Jenoptik to showcase robot-based laser machine at LASYS 2014

Rofin-Sinar to debut laser welding workstation at LASYS 2014

Scanlab to demonstrate remote welding on-the-fly with online seam tracking at LASYS 2014

Visitors coming to the event with a specific manufacturing problem can obtain competent advice at a Meet the Experts stand directly at the entrance to Hall 4, where experienced employees from five renowned laser institutes will share their know-how and expertise for free and refer to exhibitors who can help solve the manufacturing problem.

A framework program at the event, aimed at both experienced laser users and newcomers, will include the Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum (SLT), which will take place June 24-25 and is organized by Professor Thomas Graf, director of the Institut für Strahlwerkzeuge (IFSW) at the University of Stuttgart, and Dr. Rudolf Weber, head of process development at IFSW. Topics to be discussed include processing of brittle materials such as glass, joining of composites, the latest developments in ultrashort-pulse lasers, and ultrafast scanners and beam shaping.

Also in Hall 4 will be a Lasers in Action forum featuring interesting presentations from exhibitors on such topics as robot-based 3D laser processing for the automotive industry and using femtosecond lasers for processing implantable medical elements.

The Stuttgart Laser Marketplace workshop on June 25 in the ICS, organized by Dr. Arnold Mayer from Optech Consulting, will provide the latest data and trends in regional and international markets of laser material processing (fee applies). And those who do not yet have in-depth knowledge of laser technology can get a primer by attending a Short Course on the Basics of Laser and Laser Material Processing on June 25 and 26.
