Olympus partners with Université du Québec, providing microscopy and metrology systems

Center Valley, PA--Microscope maker Olympus has become a research partner with École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS; Montréal, QC, Canada), part of the Université du Québec network.

Center Valley, PA--Microscope maker Olympus has become a research partner with École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS; Montréal, QC, Canada), part of the Université du Québec network. In the partnership, Olympus will provide ÉTS with an assortment of leading-edge microscope systems. ÉTS specializes in application engineering and technology, and is geared toward cooperative education with a particular focus on fields such as mechanical, electrical, civil, production, and industrial engineering, as well as materials sciences.

Olympus’ microscopy and laser surface-analysis systems are available for use free of charge at ÉTS’s Center of Excellence facility upon request by researchers, engineers, and technicians from education, government, and private industry. Olympus’ technical specialists are available on-site to assist with application and operational support.

"It is an honor to welcome Olympus to the École de technologie supérieure network," says Mohammad Jahazi, a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at ÉTS. "Their partnership elevates ÉTS program offerings by providing cutting-edge equipment and support that produces top-level competencies in engineering, technology, and education."

The microscope systems provided by Olympus to ÉTS include:

--DSX100 opto-digital imaging system, a free-angle wide-zoom microscope that "combines cutting-edge optical performance with the operational convenience of a smartphone or tablet," says Olympus.

--BX microscopes with multispot autofocus, high-resolution apochromat, long-working-distance fluorite, strain-free lenses for use with polarized light, and optics for near-IR or deep-UV transmission.

--STM6 2D and 3D measuring and toolmakers microscopes that provide measurements with submicron resolution.

--LEXT OLS4100 laser confocal microscope system, which delivers nanometer-level imaging, 3D measurement, and surface-roughness analysis.
