Cardiff, Wales--The 2013 Photonics21 Student Innovation Award, to be presented at an awards ceremony during an evening reception on April 29 during the Photonics21 annual meeting (April 29-30; Brussels, Belgium), is accepting student applicants until February 20. The winning project will receive a certificate and a cash prize of $6,637 (€5,000).
In its fifth year, the award program was established by the Research, Education and Training Group (Working Group 7) of the Photonics21 Technology Platform for students in photonics. Goals are to promote research in photonics, especially related to R&D with industrial impact, and to recognize primarily individual effort in pure or applied optics and photonics. Previous winning projects have been in the areas of optical fiber systems, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), photovoltaics, lasers for medicine, remote sensing, and other applications.
