The Vortex Plus Blue TLB-6802 series singlemode, tunable laser operates at 461 nm, the critical wavelength for next-generation atomic clocks.

The Vortex Plus Blue TLB-6802 series singlemode, tunable laser operates at 461 nm, the critical wavelength for next-generation atomic clocks. It has stability of 1% over 1 hr and continuous-wave, mode-hop-free operation. A standard port for direct-to-diode, high-speed modulation allows precise wavelength locking. A controller with low-noise analog circuits is optional.

PRESS RELEASE

New Focus Introduces Vortex™ Plus – Blue Tunable Laser

New Focus introduces the world’s first tunable, direct-diode blue laser that operates at 461 nm.

Santa Clara, CA – New Focus™, a Newport Corporation Brand, introduces the Vortex™ Plus Blue TLB-6802 precision series, single-mode, finely-tunable laser. This is the world’s first precision tunable blue laser that operates at 461 nm, the critical wavelength for next-generation atomic clocks that are currently being built by National Labs and other top research labs worldwide. The blue Vortex Plus replaces complex resonant second-harmonic generation, or SHG systems, making it ideal for research applications such as molecular and optical physics and other areas that require blue wavelength tunable lasers.

The innovative Vortex Plus laser head delivers a narrower linewidth than prior versions. The new feature combines with the same reliable stability (1% over 1 hour) and true continuous-wave, mode-hop-free operation that New Focus’ legacy Vortex II product offers. For added flexibility, an industry-standard SMA port for direct-to-diode, high-speed modulation (useful for precise wavelength locking) is also included.

The compatible TLB-6700-LN controller is available as part of the Vortex Plus system or can be ordered separately. It features low-noise analog circuits which allow the user to precisely set critical operating parameters such as diode temperature and current. Designed to automatically recognize the laser head and to designate the ideal temperature and maximum current limit, the controller provides intuitive, easy setup for top performance results. The TLB-6700-LN controller can be operated both manually or remotely via the convenient USB interface.
