An 8 µm isolator, designed for use with quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) operating between 7.7 and 8.3 µm, is based on the Faraday effect, or the interaction between light and and a magnetic field in a medium. The isolator delivers typical transmittance >90% and reverse isolation >30 dB.

PRESS RELEASE
ANNOUNCEMENT
8 µm ISOLATOR NOW IN PRODUCTION AT INNOVATION PHOTONICS
INNOVATION PHOTONICS announces the availability of their new 8 µm ISOLATOR, designed for use with quantum cascade lasers operating between 7.7 µm and 8.3 µm.
All lasers can be negatively affected by the phenomenon of feedback, that is, reflections of the laser’s own energy back into the laser cavity. Thus, feedback can disrupt laser performance and can cause serious damage to the laser.
The new isolator is based on the Faraday Effect (magneto-optic effect) by which back reflections are caused to be extinguished by the polarizers in the isolator.
Typical transmittance is >90% and reverse isolation >30dB.
