SPIE launches new suite of website tools

July 10, 2012
The international society for optics and photonics has launched a new suite of tools on its website in order to make submitting abstracts, reviewing manuscripts, and organizing conferences more simple on its website, SPIE.org.

The international society for optics and photonics has launched a new suite of tools on its website in order to make submitting abstracts, reviewing manuscripts, and organizing conferences more simple on its website, SPIE.org. The new system includes the latest tools for conference chairs, review committees, authors and staff, and includes major advances in usability, integration, and efficiency.

"We have worked to make submissions easier, improve the manageability of the conference review process, and create a new foundation for conference chair tools online. The system benefits from robust integration with SPIE's conference programs online, mobile applications, as well as the SPIE Digital Library," said Scott Ritchey, SPIE IT Director.

The new system launched this week, with authors, chairs, and reviewers involved with this week's SPIE Astronomical Telescopes and Instrumentation and other upcoming conferences making the transition.

The new system features:

• improved accessibility for authors and chairs via the SPIE.org My Account Dashboard
• redesigned and streamlined submission tools for abstract and manuscript submission
• easier-to-use tools for submitting co-author and reference information.

"Conference chairs will benefit from major usability improvements, a simplified process for reviewer assignment, new process indicators and easy-to-use reporting," Ritchey said. "With this new system-built on an entirely new business systems architecture-SPIE is better positioned than ever to create more flexible options for the conferences and publications of the future."

Approximately 17,000 new, original conference proceedings manuscripts are managed via SPIE.org each year and published in the SPIE Digital Library.
