The JK2000FL is a new 2 kW fiber laser offered as an alternative to traditional CO2 and Nd:YAG laser sources in the automotive and aerospace industries. Used with processing fibers from 100 to 300 μm in diameter for cutting and welding sheet metal, it can cut 15-mm-thick low carbon steel (LCS), 6 mm aluminum alloys, and 10 mm stainless steel (304SS), and weld 8 mm LCS and 304SS.

2kW Fiber Laser Opens Up New Manufacturing Opportunities

A 2kW fiber laser has been launched by global industrial laser manufacturer JK Lasers. With excellent beam quality and high processing powers, the JK2000FL presents manufacturers with a viable and cost-effective alternative to traditional CO2 and Nd:YAG laser sources.

The JK2000FL can be used with different diameter processing fibers from 100µm to 300µm for cutting and welding sheet metal. The JK2000FL can cut 15mm thick low carbon steel (LCS), 6mm aluminium alloys and 10mm stainless steel (304SS). It can also weld 8mm LCS and 304SS.

Accelerating throughput without compromising quality, the JK2000FL is ideal for automotive applications such as tailored blank welding, component welding, remote welding and hydroformed tube cutting. In the aerospace industry, it can be used for titanium welding of aircraft skins and structures, as well as laser cladding.

The JK2000FL delivers a stable output power from switch on, as well as a consistent focused spot size and beam profile over the complete power range. It is also fitted with JK Lasers’ detachable ‘plug in, pre-aligned’ (PIPA) beam delivery fibres which incorporates patented back reflection protection to protect the laser from damage when processing highly reflective materials such as aluminium, copper, brass and titanium.

Compared to Nd:YAG lasers, the JK2000FL is up to ten times more energy efficient, offering manufacturers substantial savings in terms of operational costs. This is due to the use of laser diode pumping at high conversion rates, which delivers wall-plug efficiencies of over 25%. In addition, the extremely long mean time to failure (MTTF) of over 300,000 hours for the individual laser pump sources enables extended system lifetimes.

The JK2000FL retains key benefits from JK Lasers’ successful lower power models, including excellent beam quality, user-friendly software, fast modulation and pulse shaping. It can be fitted with JK Lasers’ modular range of bespoke process tools for optimal performance and can incorporate an optional timeshare unit that can simultaneously connect up to four separate workstations. With a compact footprint, the JK2000FL can be easily integrated into most production environments.
