PRESS RELEASE

ILX LIGHTWAVE RELEASES NEW FIBER OPTIC POWER METER WITH INDUSTRY LEADING MEASUREMENT ACCURACY AND REPEATABILITY

BOZEMAN, Montana, June 2011 – ILX Lightwave Corporation introduces the FPM-8220 Fiber Optic Power Meter and FMH-8715, FMH-87107, and FMH-8705 Fiber Optic Measurement Heads. The FPM-8220 Fiber Optic Power Meter replaces the popular FPM-8210 Fiber Optic Power Meter and offers improved accuracy, interchangeable fiber optic measurement heads, and both USB and IEEE-488 interfaces.

The FPM-8220 provides industry leading accuracy and repeatability for a third of the price of competitive fiber optic power meters. These instruments combine ultra low polarization dependent response and high measurement repeatability in a intuitive, easy to use instrument for R&D and manufacturing testing of fiber optic components and systems. The FMH-8700 Series Fiber Optic Measurement Heads can make precise measurements up to +30 dBm over a wavelength range of 800 nm to 1650 nm. Two new integrating sphere-based measurements heads cover a power measurement range of 90 dB with ±0.02 dB linearity for connectorized, bare fiber and bare ferrule measurements. For lower power measurements, a detector only measurement head covers a measurement range of -75 dBm to +1.5 dBm. Bare fiber measurements are made easy with ILX Lightwave’s patented BF-820 Bare Fiber Holder for easy fiber positioning and repeatable measurements with any of the measurement heads.

ILX Lightwave power meters are calibrated to NIST transfer standards in our calibration laboratory where accuracy and traceability are primary concerns. Contact ILX to request your copy of Application Note # 36 “Calibration and Traceability of ILX Lightwave Optical Power Meters”.

For automated control, the FPM-8220 includes USB 2.0 and IEEE 488.2 GPIB interfaces for remote instrument operation in R&D or manufacturing environments making data gathering quick and accurate. The new instrument remote commands are compatible with the FPM-8210, so customers can drop-in replace FPM-8210’s with the new FPM-8220’s. LabVIEW® drivers for the FPM-8220 are available for download from the ILX Lightwave website.
