Fitchburg, MA -- R&D Magazine has announced that the Hyperspec RECON hyperspectral sensor by Headwall Photonics has been chosen as a recipient of a 2012 R&D 100 Award. The annual award competition is now celebrating its 50th anniversary. An independent judging panel along with editors of R&D Magazine chose the top 100 products.

Rita Peters, Editorial Director for R&D Magazine, notified Headwall Photonics that its Hyperspec RECON sensor was chosen as one of the 100 most technologically significant products introduced in the past year.

A formal presentation and acceptance of the award will take place November 1, 2012 in Orlando.

Hyperspec RECON is a rugged and portable hyperspectral imaging sensor designed to provide discrete target identification of a 6" x 6" scene at a distance of up to a mile. The sensor, which operates in the VNIR spectral range of 380nm-1000nm, was developed to quickly and accurately detect and classify materials within the field of view based on specific spectral signatures. Hyperspec RECON was developed for the U.S. Army and can be deployed as a handheld unit or mounted on a vehicle or mast. Application areas for Hyperspec RECON include military/defense, homeland security, border patrol, base security, and remote sensing and analysis.
