Edmund Optics' Tucson office moves, expands

Optical components provider Edmund Optics (EO; Barrington, NJ) has relocated its Tucson Design Center to a new facility that covers 8000 square feet, nearly doubling the footprint of the previous space. The design center houses a custom optical and optomechanical research and development group, applications engineering, sales, and customer support. As did the old office, EO's expanded office is collaborating closely with the University of Arizona (U of A) College of Optical Sciences and the Tucson optics cluster.

The office's proximity to the university also helps the company to recruit College of Optical Sciences graduates. "We are grateful to our many partners in the Tucson area such as the University of Arizona, and look forward to bringing additional jobs and opportunities to the community," says Robert M. Edmund, CEO, Edmund Optics, and founding member and chair of the U of A College of Optical Sciences development board of directors. EO's recently created R&D group is a major factor driving the move to larger quarters, according to the company. The new facility has a 1000-square-foot lab equipped with "state-of-the-art processing, machining, and test and measurement equipment," says EO. In addition to other workspaces and collaborative areas, the space also has locker rooms and secure bicycle storage for EO's workforce.

The new Tucson Design Center opened September 19, 2016, and Edmund Optics is celebrating with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, November 17, 2016, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Guests will include members of the Arizona Technology Council (AZTC), representatives from the University of Arizona, and local officials, customers and vendors. EO expects more than 100 people to attend the event, which will take place at 6274 E. Grant Road, Tucson, AZ, 85712.
