The 2016 Light Conference will be held July 4-8, in Changchun, Jilin province, China. The conference is co-sponsored by two key optics institutions in China and the US: the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP) of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and University of Rochester. It is organized by the editorial department of the Journal of Light: Science & Applications (LSA), which is co-published by Nature Publishing Group and CIOMP.

Co-chairs of the conference are Chunlei Guo, University of Rochester, and Jianlin Cao, Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China. The Plenary speaker is Shuji Nakamura, who is Research Director for the Solid State Lighting & Energy Electronics Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the agenda includes an Optics and Precision Engineering Forum and a Young Scientists Forum.

Technical presentations span a wide range of optical engineering and scientific disciplines, beginning with the Keynote, Dieter Bimberg, from the Institute of Solid State Physics and Center of NanoPhotonics at the Technical University Berlin. Bimberg will speak on nanophotonics for a Green Internet.

Other topics to be addressed by the list of distinguished speakers include: bioinspired microfabrication with femtosecond lasers; optical microsphere nanoscope: from sitting its lens on sample surface to working in non-contact mode; and on-chip disordered optofluidics: a material view at the microscale.

Exhibiting companies include BWT Beijing, CNI Laser, Light Conversion, Newport, PI, SunJoy, ThorLabs, and Titan Electro-Optics.
