Necsel, which makes lasers for projection, specialty lighting, medical, industrial, and life sciences, will buy PD-LD.

Necsel (Milpitas, CA), which makes lasers for projection, specialty lighting, medical, industrial, and life sciences, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire PD-LD (Pennington, NJ), which makes communication, stabilized-module, and VBG glass technology. Vladimir Ban, PD-LD founder and CEO, said, “The PD-LD board of directors is pleased to have overseen the growth of the company from its inception to an industry leader in communications and VBG glass technology. We commend all of our employees for their continued hard work and dedication.”

William Mackenzie, Chairman and CEO of Necsel (a part of Ushio), said, “The combination of Necsel and PD-LD creates a world class laser solutions provider and allows us to further utilize our global footprint and sales support. This acquisition strengthens our IP portfolio in the bio-instrumentation and life sciences space. It also augments and strengthens our vertical integration strategy to continue to serve the needs of our projection customers and enhance the global rollout of laser cinema.”

The announcement was made on the eve of SPIE Photonics West so the companies could discuss plans with their customer base. The merger is expected to close in March 2016.
