Princeton Optronics VCSELs are mass-producible at high volume

Single-emitter vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) are now mass-producible at high volume.

Single-emitter vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) are now mass-producible at high volume, and can replace an infrared (IR) LED in active optical sensors. They offer lower power consumption and longer range because of narrower native divergence, allowing for design into conventional proximity sensing as well as for mobile applications. Additional features include 63% wall plug efficiency and operation at temperatures to 100°C. Die sizes from 190 × 190 to 500 × 500 µm and 850 and 940 nm wavelengths are available.
