Research alliance around photonic crystal fiber technology forms

June 22, 2015
A new strategic research alliance in which NKT Photonics will license parts of its photonic crystal fiber (PCF) technology has formed.

NKT Photonics (Birkerød, Denmark) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering (IOF; Jena, Germany) have formed a strategic research alliance in which NKT Photonics will license parts of its photonic crystal fiber (PCF) technology.

Fraunhofer IOF has been a partner and customer of NKT Photonics for many years, and holds numerous fiber laser performance records using jointly developed fibers from the company.

In 2017, Fraunhofer IOF will open a PCF facility with a mission of conducting application-oriented research in optical systems engineering, especially in production, healthcare, and security, according to Prof. Dr. Andreas Tünnermann, director of Fraunhofer IOF.
