DOE awards Pixelligent and OLEDWorks $1.25M for solid-state lighting development

Pixelligent Technologies was selected for a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) solid-state-lighting award to support the continued development of its organic light-emitting diode (OLED) lighting application.

Advanced materials company Pixelligent Technologies was selected for a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) solid-state-lighting award to support the continued development of its organic light-emitting diode (OLED) lighting application. Pixelligent and its partner OLEDWorks were selected as one of only nine awardees nationwide for this $1.25 million dollar DOE award.

The goal of this project is to develop a novel internal light-extraction design that improves the light-extraction efficiency of OLED lighting devices by more than 200%, without negatively impacting the device voltage, efficacy, or angular color dependence.

"This federal grant reflects the type of common sense investments we should be making to help our economy rebound by boosting U.S. manufacturing and high-tech innovation," said Congressman Ruppersberger of Maryland's Second District. "The fact that one of Baltimore's own companies was selected and will be bringing jobs back to the city is icing on the cake. Pixelligent is an impressive and growing company, and I am proud that they have chosen the Second District to call home."

Pixelligent Technologies develops materials for solid-state lighting, flat-panel displays, optical components, and optical films. Its PixClear product line delivers a refractive index of up to 1.85, has unparalleled transparency in excess of 95%, and provides robust thermal stability. PixClear is easily incorporated into the most commonly used polymers, from acrylics and epoxies to silicones and spin-on glasses, all while using industry standard manufacturing processes.
