Projection module from DILAS provides 40 W output for cinema projector

June 13, 2013
The product is a T-bar-based, 638 nm, 400 micron/0.22 NA fiber-coupled module.

A T-bar-based, 638 nm, 400 micron/0.22 NA fiber-coupled module provides 40 W output for cinema projection. It is designed to be smaller, brighter, and more efficient than standard lampbased technology. The module is based on standard micro-optic fast-axis and slow-axis collimators. The T-bar is a monolithic multi-emitter source.

DILAS Announces Breakthrough in 638nm Fiber-Coupled Tailored Bar Modules Used for Cinema Projection

Mainz, Germany - DILAS, the diode laser company, now delivers 40W output power, substantially higher than previously available, from a T-bar based 638nm 400-micron/0.22NA, fiber-coupled module used for cinema projection.

Through the optimization of semiconductor chip structures and optical parameters, DILAS’ tailored bar (T-Bar) architecture delivers high beam quality and high power using standard micro-optic fast-axis collimators (FAC) and slow-axis collimators (SAC), all assembled with automated processes. The T-Bar is amonolithic multi-emitter source, allowing the handling of multiple emitters during each manufacturing step, to lower complexity and ease manufacturing. The result is enhanced reproducibility, beam quality and fiber coupling efficiency.

DILAS’ visible 638nm fiber-coupled T-Bar product offers significant advantages over conventional lamp-based technology. In cinema projectors higher-efficiency, significantly smaller footprint, lower cost of ownership, higher reliability, and higher brightness are all enabled.

Extending the T-Bar based scalable concept, more advanced modules will soon be made available to enable development and commercialization of high power diode laser based RGB projection laser systems.
