Yokohama, Japan--Project Vivit Co. Ltd., a company stealthy enough that its website is a blank white page, has shown a color electronic-paper (e-paper) screen that displays at video speeds. The still image here doesn't do it justice: see the video to view it in action.

The device was shown at FPD International 2012 (Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, 2012; Yokohama, Japan) on the last morning of the show in the booth of Nagase & Co. Ltd. The 6-in. e-paper display was manufactured by Taiwan-based E Ink Holdings Inc. It displays video using Seiko Epson Corp's system-on-a-chip (SoC) architecture. Vivit has not yet confirmed other specifications for the e-paper.

Vivit plans to use the video-capable color e-paper for industrial and medical devices, but not for electronic book readers.
