Nashua, NH--Laser Focus World magazine, the international resource for technology and applications in the global photonics industry, won a Gold âEddieâ at the 2011 Folio Awards held at Sentry Center in New York City, January 25, 2011.
The Folio Awards are the largest competition for magazines and recognize the best in both editorial and design excellence. Laser Focus World won a Gold âEddieâ Award in the B-to-B Technology/Computing/Telecom (Full Issue) category for its May 2010 edition celebrating 50 years of the laser.

âMay 2010 marked a very important milestone in our industry,â said Laser Focus Worldâs Editor-in-Chief and Associate Publisher, Steve Anderson. âIn May 1960 Theodore Maiman demonstrated the first ruby laser and, just 50 years later, lasers and photonics have become as essential to our way of life as electronics and electricity.
âIt was a challenge to summarize the profound impact this technology has had on our daily lives in a single issue, but we were able to create a running timeline across the top of each page which describes the key developments in each decade and records the evolution of the laser into pioneering applications such as medicine, materials-working, optical data storage, communications and research,â Anderson said. âWe are extremely honored to have won a Gold Award for an issue commemorating the Golden Anniversary of the laser,â he added.
