LIA introduces free, online optical density calculator for laser safety eyewear
Orlando, FL--The Laser Institute of America (LIA) has introduced a free, online Optical Density (OD) Calculator resource for all laser users worldwide. This online tool at www.laserinstitute.org/evaluator/od.php will calculate what OD is recommended for use with a laser system of a given power. LIA’s online OD Calculator supplies you with the minimum OD required for laser safety eyewear in continuous, single, and repetitive wave pulse modes.
The tool is a part of LIA’s new web-based laser safety hazards analysis system--the Evaluator (www.LSEval.com). This approach provides a reliable way to easily double-check laser safety calculations. It is based on the ANSI Z136.1 American National Standard for Safe Use of Lasers and will perform repeated calculations of maximum permissible exposure (MPE), optical density (OD), nominal ocular hazard distance (NOHD), nominal hazard zone (NHZ), and laser hazard classification.
