A blind-spot information system (BLIS) developed by Volvo for its 2005 models uses a CMOS imaging-array camera mounted in a chrome viewing port below each sideview mirror (left). The system controller lights a triangular LED lamp (seen on the window frame to the right of the mirror) to signal the driver when a vehicle is in the blind spot area to the rear and side. The system will cover 30‑ × 10-ft blind spots on either side and to the rear of the car (right).
